The first of its kind, The Gas turbine would revolutionize the Tegetthoffs, extending their range to unprecedented ranges compared to other ships. The Tegetthoffs speed was also the result of a top secret turbo-electric gas turbine setup. The Tegetthoff's high speed of 38kn was a result of the requirement to outrun British battle cruisers.
However, the resulting ship was larger then every European ship, out-sizing the similar British Queen Mary-classĭesigned to out run heavy cruisers, the Tegetthoff was built as a fast Battleship, with 5 large propellers.
As apart of the Nazi-Japanese alliance, the Tegetthoff used 20.1 in guns sourced from the Japanese designs for the Aki-class.
